UK father on hunger strike - press censored

A tragic story is unfolding before the eyes of the British, European and North American Press with not a word being said.

Len Miskulin, of Croatian origin, has been denied contact with his two children for two months now, in direct contravention of the UK Human Rights Act and the European Convention of Human Rights. The children are at risk of becoming permanently alienated from him. In desperation, some days before Christmas, he went on hunger strike in order to demand justice. This hunger strike is now reaching its 33rd day, and although Mr Miskulin is taking multivitamins and rehydration salts, he is on his last legs.

Gagging Order - UK Free Speech totally curtailed

On 28th December the Daily Mail published a full article detailing his plight. In response, the British courts issued a gagging order with a penal notice attached preventing, in the widest terms possible, dissemination of any information about Len's hunger strike or any other matters pertaining to the case. This feat was achieved by the statement in this court order that none of the material in the article (and not merely the forenames of the children and mother) should be "disseminated" (and not published), in spite of the ostensible reason for the order being to protect the identities of children and mother. This makes the gagging order more extreme than that covering the killers of James Bulger. Len recounts (Tuesday 16th January)

Edmonton County Court says that everything has been moved to the High Court. They appear to be combining the injunction with the family matter. I can't understand why. It just seems that they are trying to do things over my head, just to cause as much confusion and stress as possible. I am feeling very sick, I had difficulty walking to the court this morning and was shaking like a leaf when I got there.

Many, many fathers have already quietly committed suicide, faced with total and permanent alienation from their children. It seems that this is what both society and journalists would prefer them to do - go quietly - even if the issue at stake is one of draconian state abuse of their children's and their own human rights, as well as the civil right of free speech.
